WHAT ARE KATUNS?

Katuns are temporary, farmers’ settlements in the mountains, at high altitudes, where they move with their cattle in summers for pastures. The tradition of going to katuns is a long one, and this nomadic life has throughout the history dictated specific culture and customs particular for katuns only. These are traditional, seasonal settlements, that are rare to find nowdays. They are located high in the mountains, and are close to many mountain, hiking and biking trails.
