Hiking

Although Hajla has got some marked hiking trails from before, it could be said that this area is “intact zone” for mountaineers and hiking lovers. That makes it even more challenging. However, when you determine the objectives and consult the people from katuns, Čakor and Mokra can easily be passed through using the paths and reefs, without distancing from the viewpoints overlooking the Lim valley.

Before leaving for longer routes, check the map carefully, or simply have someone from katun help you, they know all the trails and paths in these mountains. Springs, mountain water faucets, brooks are everywhere but you should still ask the hosts for a recommendation, he will show you the coldest ones, the best ones.

Hiking in “katun zone”, at around 1,800 m altitude is not strenuous. If you feel tired, you take a break, your strength comes back in a moment. But – why the haste? Enjoy slowly. Greenery, fast shifts of surrounding and angles, the view overlooking the open spaces and round and concave forms, hut’s rooftops and white flocks of sheep, horses and cows more beautiful than “Milka’s”, passing through beech and coniferous forests, over the brooks, through a carpet ragged with blueberries and juniper or silky with dewy wild flowers – are all a blessing for body, spirit and soul.

The best way to get to know these mountains and the specific features of katuns is through hiking.

Biking

There are a lot of very attractive marked biking trails in the region of Plav, Andrijevica, Berane and Rožaje. The villages and katuns of these municipalities offer a lot of trails and gravel roads for the enjoyment in biking and for the exploration of the area, as well.

The roads in katun area go through forests and meadows. The viewpoints are numerous, the view fantastic, the landscape scenic, picturesque.

You can visit several katuns by bikes, or you can simply cruise the mountains. The easiest and the simplest way is, perhaps, to take the asphalted road from Murino to Čakor and from there take the gravel road through Lijepi do to Mokra. For the start. And then just follow the signalization of Katun road, and you will not get lost.

 Speleology

Pits, caves and rock shelters of the area haven’t been explored yet. Mašnički katun contains Čavčina pit, which is presumably very deep. On the way from the village Rmuš towards Kaludra, in Jočova Luka, there is a big cave, and in Kostreš, a famous Red cave. The only one, which is partly explored is Bezimena (No Name) cave on the slopes of Mokra, in the area of the village Velika, that is why some call it Velička cave. This one and the surrounding ones are called Tojine caves by the locals.

Bezimena cave was completely unexplored until 1985. It has two entrances at 1,780 m altitude and around 460 m of its channels are explored nowadays.

The main channel contains three lakes, the halls are full of cave ornaments, stalactites, stalagmites, petrified waterfalls and various, unusual statues, the most interesting one being the statue of a mother with a child. The special ornaments are glistening crystals and coral jewelry.
